Meet your new rich neigh­bor. 71 year old Ralph Sta­ples of Vine Grove. He won a mil­lion bucks in the Power­ball game this past week-end. He says that he can hardly believe it, and prob­a­bly won’t until he gets the check in his hand.

Sta­ples says that he’s played the lot­tery for years and only won a few bucks here and there. He bought his ticket at Basham’s Cor­ner Mar­ket in Vine Grove. The store gets 10-thousand dol­lars for sell­ing the win­ning ticket.

And, another million-dollar ticket was sold in Buckner.

Bikers, Barbecue, and Blues Will Draw Thousands

A big week-end ahead in Eliz­a­beth­town — motor­cy­cles, bands…and barbecue.

The event is expected to draw thou­sands this Sat­ur­day from noon to 10 p.m. — with motor­cy­cles and vis­i­tors com­ing from Arkansas, Illi­nois, Geor­gia and Ohio. Heath Sey­mour, with the local Her­itage Coun­cil says it is a ter­rific oppor­tu­nity for the town. Plenty of great bar­be­cue to eat, plus blues music all day from bands such as The Blooze Broth­ers, D’Man, The Alley­hounds and One Shot Johnny.

Alcohol Involved In Double-Fatal Wreck

KSP says that alchol was a fac­tor in a wreck Sat­ur­day night near Cox’s Creek that killed a brother and sister.

22 year old Amaris Blair crossed the cen­ter line and was hit by a pick-up. Blair and her 23 year old brother Jonathan died at the scene. The peo­ple in the truck were not badly hurt.

Local Man Takes A Tumble On Fishing Trip

An Eliz­a­beth­town man took a tum­ble down an embank­ment while fish­ing with his brother near West Point.

Drew Holm­berg took a walk, and when he didn’t come back, his brother got help from search crews. They found him about three hours later, Holm­berg was taken to the hos­pi­tal for treat­ment. The vol­un­teer res­cue team who found him had just been in train­ing for such a situation…a cou­ple of days before.

Buckle-Up Or Get A Ticket

You bet­ter buckle-up. Police locally and across the state are kicking-off the Click-it-or-Ticket cam­paign today. They are look­ing for peo­ple who are not wear­ing seat belts. 83% of Ken­tucky driver’s buckle-up. That’s not a great num­ber. It’s slightly worse than the national average.

746 peo­ple died in wrecks in Ken­tucky last year — and more than half of those who died were not buck­led in.

Hodgenville: Possible Kidnap Attempt

In Hod­genville, police are step­ping up patrols after a pos­si­ble kid­nap­ping attemtp. A 12-year old boy says that a guy in pick-up pulled over and motioned for him. But the boy got scared and took off run­ning. The boy was walk­ing on South Lin­coln Blvd.

The truck is described as a tan GMC; the dri­ver a thin white guy with a mus­tache. Police advise that you remind you kids not to talk to strangers, and if a stranger approaches, they should run to find the near­est grown-up.

A Wild One-Man Party. He Got High On Redi-Whip?

In Shep­erdsville, cops say they’ve never seen any­thing like this.

A home­less guy hid in a stor­age closet at the Value Mart, and when the place closed he came out and had a one-man party.

30 year Trevor Run­yon was seen on secu­rity video enjoy­ing him­self after hours at the store. He cooked food in the kitchen, drank beer, and then to get really trashed — he huffed 57 cans of Ready Whip.

He also went to the bath­room on him­self, then stole some box­ers off the shelf and changed. Before the store re-opened the next morn­ing, he hid in the attic and passed out. They had to call the fire depart­ment to get him down. He’s locked up under 50-thousand dol­lars bond.

Zapped With Tazer After Running From KSP

A Rad­cliff man was zapped with taser by KSP Mon­day. Troop­ers say 23 year old Drew McCormick sped through a traf­fic safety check­point on Ky. 313 and that he almost ran over three officers.

Troop­ers chased him down. They say McCormick was com­bat­ive and that once in hand cuffs, he was bel­liger­ent. In the back of a patrol car, he lunged at a trooper and that’s when they used the taser. McCormick is fac­ing a vari­ety of charges from reck­less dri­ving to resist­ing arrest, and dri­ving with­out insurance.

McConnell Blasts The IRS

An out­ra­geous abuse of power. That’s what Ken­tucky Sen­a­tor Mitch McConnell says about the Inter­nal Rev­enue. The IRS has admit­ted has­sling the tea party and other con­ser­v­a­tive groups when they tried to get a tax-exempt sta­tus. Yes­ter­day on the sen­ate floor, McConnell called out the pres­i­dent. He said that top offi­cials at the agency should be made avail­able to Con­gress to answer ques­tions with no stonewalling.

Women Arrested For Welfare Fraud

Seven Hardin county women have been indicted for try­ing to get wel­fare ben­e­fits they are not enti­tled too. The lat­est one was arrested last thurs­day. 54 year old Karen Good­man of Eliz­a­beth­town. The amount of tax­payer money paid to the women ranged from $3,000 more to than $12,000.
